Other Doctor Before and After Results with Standard MIS Bunion Surgery
Most patients ask about "minimally invasive surgery" (MIS) because they want to avoid a large incision. However, this approach does not always lead to a better result.
The Problem: In the image on the right, you’ll see a before and after example of minimally invasive (“pinhole”) bunion surgery performed elsewhere. In the “after” image, the big toe (hallux) appears noticeably shortened and unnatural in appearance. This type of outcome can occur as a result of "blind" minimally invasive (“pinhole”) surgery where a surgeon uses a high-speed burr (grinder) through a very small incision without direct visualization of the bone.
The Result: When you can't see the bone, it’s easy to grind away too much. Additionally, when you use a burr instead of a precise cut with a bone saw, this leads to a "short toe" look that is both an aesthetic disappointment and sometimes functional nightmare due to increased pressure on other parts of the foot.
At Foot First Podiatry, we take a different approach. With the Sklar Bunionectomy®, we prioritize direct visualization combined with hidden incisions to help preserve your foot's natural length and beauty.
The Solution: In the image on the right, you’ll see a before and after example of bunion surgery performed at Foot First Podiatry. Notice the improved alignment and symmetry in the “after” result. By using a specialized precision saw under direct visualization, we are able to correct the bunion while preserving the natural length and structure of the toe.
The Result:
Preserved Length: The big toe remains in proportion to the others.
Hidden Incisions: Our incisions are placed on the side/bottom of the foot to be virtually invisible.
Immediate Function: Most patients walk out of the office in a surgical shoe; no crutches required.
